In times when hatred and bigotry are invited guests at the table, it can be easy to forget that love and inclusiveness were there in the beginning and will be there at the end. Here in Detroit we have seen hard times, some of which remain. What we also see is beauty, especially the beauty of families. The families we see in this city are of all nationalities, races, religions, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, social and economic backgrounds. We come together in our public spaces where everyone is welcome, even a photographer in an Amigo scooter who goes up to strangers and asks them to pose for these photos. A photographer who invites families to let her into their lives if only for a few moments. A photographer who has always been looking for family in Detroit. A photographer who sees this project as the answer to her search.
